C3 Public Arts Fellowship
Reimagining a Creative Space for Artists to learn
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The C3Lab Public Arts Fellowship Program was created as a continuation of the mission of the former C3Lab creative coworking hub of supporting artists in the community and promoting cultural vitality in the Southeast. After the closure of the arts studios, a reimagination of a working environment that targeted professional education, environmental support and hands-on experience was constructed by the parent Design + Build firm, ACSM Inc, as a focused opportunity to assist emerging and mid-level career artists looking to broaden their careers in the public arts realm with an entire year of concentrated knowledge and support.
SUPPORT
Professional visual artists 21 years of age and older, involved in sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital media, and installations are encouraged to apply for the annual fellowship program. Two artists will be selected; one from the Charlotte, NC metro area and another from anywhere outside the local area will share two semi-private studios to continue their own professional practice as they progress through the arts fellowship program.
WORKSPACE
The two large open studios spaces are approximately 20’ x 10’ x 15’ with loft areas that have desks for a cleaner workspace area. Artists also have access to the surrounding lounge, kitchen, utility sinks and other open areas for personal use. The basic understanding of complex shop machinery will be taught and guided usage is possible after completing minimum test requirements.
This is not a project-based program, nor is it directed to address specific social issues happening in society today. It is solely dedicated to the professional development of the individual artist without biases of artist prestige or status.
The nature of the program is semi-formal with an expectation for artists to participate in professional discussions, hands-on workshop assistance, and be fully integrated with the professional arts fabrication team.
Applications will be opening soon. To learn more about this new public arts opportunity, email info@c3-lab.com or click the button below.

"The Relatives Family Wall"
Donor Wall Sculpture
ACSM : Production Design, Fabrication, Installation & Field Logistics
Meredith Dallas : Concept Design
The Relatives Family Wall was designed to be a sculptural recognition of the generous donors that made The Relatives new On-Ramp facility possible. The sculpture represents the personal growth of the youth to which the organization provides aid. Throughout its winding path, the piece grows taller, until it reaches just over human height at its tallest. The work was inspired by the mid-century modern design of the architecture of the facility, and modeled after room divider screens famous from that period. The colorful transparency used in the piece references stained glass in a way befitting the design of the facility. The Relatives was first started as a shelter for homeless youth in the basement of Dilworth United Methodist Church. Finally, the title of “Family Wall” was given to the sculpture to honor the spirit of family, guidance, support, and compassion at the core of everything The Relatives does.
